PROCESS
for this Project i wanted to make a Completely Hand Sewn top that was sturdy and Beautiful both inside and out.
Visually i wanted it to be sultry and sleek event wear that experienced the Occasional club. carrying the outfit while not being extravagant.
Making sure that every seam, Stitch, hardware and fold is Necessary for the tops construction, the Pinnacle of minimalist Beauty.
the name “crimson waves” comes from the red moon Eclipse a rare event where the moon turns red at night, which for me emulates the rare sultry romantic feeling that is exclusive to night and darker colors, hence the red fabric and moon surface like hardware.
the drapes And sleek design takes from sails and the oceans waves. the right side of the top is draped so that it naturally flows and goes where it wants, while the left side is manipulated and Engineered to form precise geometric shapes that fit the body.

when draping i made 3 versions where i Refined and tested shapes.
two different sides that Communicate. one side of the top was to have the look of natural falling fabric having a sense of direction falling from the shoulder and Wrapping around the waist under the sharp side.
the other side was to be sharp and precise cupping the bust and holding the rest of the top.

back strap patternfor the open back i ended up making an openable strap that would hug the upper hip area in order to secure the top.
90 % of the sewing was sewn by hand which meant i could get precise seams and securing that hold the shape of the drapes no matter the Movement of the wearer.
the whole sewing process consisted mainly of Multiple small bar tacks and seams.
the back Piece and the raw edges of the top were the only places i used an overlock Machine for sewing, every other Detail and seam was made by hand.

METAL-WORKThe second part of The tops creation was all the metal work like the creation of the hook and eye and chainmail neck connection.
the moon styled hook is made out of silver, the eye out of aluminium and the chainmail rings are Made out of steel.
MOON CLASP
technical sketch with Measurements and design features
wax carved model for plaster casting
sanded imperfections until smooth
using silver solder to sculpt the texture of the moon onto the disk
1st and final Versions of the hook designmade from ALUMINIUM
as designed the metal Pieces when sewn to the back Piece made the fabric curve and gave the look that the back fabric was one whole Piece and not two with a hook an eye.
chainmail
twisted designs would make the rings fragile and too thick i reverted back to the plain Single wire ringsmaterial experimentation
final designafter the experimenting with the Wires i refined my starting chainmail pattern and then sewed it onto the top, which marked the finishing of the top.
