OIL MOUNTAINS
A COLLECTION OF SMALL PAINTINGS WORKING WITH TEXTURE23-27/10/25i wanted to experiment on how to create A Lot of texture in paintings, so i made 12 smaller Paintings with texture, feathers and fur in focus. Since i wanted to focus on texture rather than “classic” painting, i printed out images i wanted to paint then glued them on cotton canvas rather than Painting from scratch saving time, also giving a mixed media feel which i was aiming for.
To elevate the mixed media look and make the paintings more raw i Didn’t shy away from Smudging and messing around on the canvas.
Using Palette knives with white and black oil paint mixed with white chalk powder, i was able to sort of sculpt with the mixed paste rather Than making strokes like you would with only oil paint.
Having the chalk powder in the paint made it have more structure and dry faster, which made it Possible to build with it and put layer on layer, This way i was able to get very high peaks and deep Grooves that catch light and gives the image a more 3d look as well as deeper and more natural shading.
On this painting i wanted to Really build on paint and Create a big difference in height of the paint and the image, so when i shined a light at an angle from the top of the canvas the hats high ridge and the Tassels spikes would cast a dramatic shadow on the face.
